Rider Profile 17: Ian Jones

Over the last few months, in the build-up to the 2016 Ride to Northampton, we have had a feature on all the riders taking part (and some of those who had to pull out). Profile 17 is the last but by no means least profile.

Main organiser Ian Jones came up with the original idea for an event to remember David Henderson, here we are two years and £10,000 raised later and he spoke to us about the pending departure on Thursday.

Name: Ian Jones
Age: 23
Occupation: Furniture Designer/Project Manager
Favourite York Player: Clayton Donaldson
Favourite York Game: Apart from the play-off final which is obvious, I’d have to go with the 4-3 win at Droylsden on New Years Day under Colin Walker.

Question 1 – Why?
Because I made a promise to both myself and David’s family that I/we wouldn’t just stop at doing it once, and that our help will be there for as long as it is both needed and wanted. Following the great success of last year’s ride, it would have broken a promise I made as well as a missed opportunity to build on something special.

Question 2 – How much preparation have you done so far and how much do you plan on doing?
I have actually done some training this year which makes a change to last year. I rejoined a gym to my bank accounts displeasure and also included some hill training in Sheffield which is absolutely delightful.

Question 3 – What do you think you will bring to the bike ride?
My bright, positive outlook on life, definitely no rants or general annoyance of people within a 5 mile radius, and good map reading skills.

Question 4 – What do you think will be the hardest aspect of the ride? Having to ride near Rob Corker whilst he talks to me he tells me about how everyone he has met is a mug and not as good as him.

Question 5 – Who are you looking forward to biking with the most and the least?
Most looking forward to riding with Ash Taylor for our grown up conversations covering a wide range of topics, also Adam Livingston as he’s my Sheffield cycle partner so we should be used to each other’s pace (hopefully!)

Question 6 – If you could choose any York City player either past or present to bike with you, who would it be?
Michael Rankine so we could get the bloke fit for the first time in years.

Question 7 – Do you predict any injuries or falls for yourself or other riders?
My knees will drop off once again is more than likely.

Question 8 – What’s the first thing you’ll do when you finish?
Tell my dad off for parking the support vehicle in the wrong place!
