Rider Profile 10: William McGahey

Profile number 10 sees one of the new additions to the group give his opinions on what he has let himself in for. William McGahey joined up after being inspired from the 2015 ride. When you add in that he only knows one other rider – it’s a top effort to get involved and shows how special this bike ride is.

McGaheyName: William McGahey
Age: 18
Occupation: Customer Assistant
Favourite York Player: Martyn Woolford, the first truly class player I saw play for York and is the sort of player we would kill for right now.
Favourite York Game: Northampton 0-2 York in April 2013, after that game there was no way we were going down and a magical journey with Nigel had begun…

Question 1 – Why?
It looked fantastic last year and was obviously for a great cause, and since I enjoy cycling anyway (well in the summer at least) it was a no brainer

Question 2 – How much preparation have you done so far and how much do you plan on doing?
In the summer I was more than prepared however it’s fair to say ‘training’ has tailed off a lot since then, fair-weather cyclist is definitely a term that comes to mind, and I don’t think playing 5 a side once a week can really count as training although I am trying to convince myself otherwise!

Question 3 – What do you think you will bring to the bike ride?
A very clean bike, ill-fitting kit and probably a large amount of over-enthusiasm at the start of the ride which will quickly turn into being completely knackered a few hours in

Question 4 – What do you think will be the hardest aspect of the ride?Probably the weather, I wouldn’t usually fancy going to Northampton in February in the car never mind on a bike, but bar that I am fairly positive!

Question 5 – Who are you looking forward to biking with the most and the least?
Since I only really one other rider, Lewis Thomson (if he is actually alive that is as I haven’t heard from him in weeks), it would have to be him for both.

Question 6 – If you could choose any York City player either past or present to bike with you, who would it be?
Danny Parslow, reliable, solid, would get you through it, and from what I know, a nice guy. We could also reminisce about that flick on in the play off final for Blair’s winner, truly majestic.

Question 7 – Do you predict any injuries or falls for yourself or other riders?
I have previously crashed my bike going uphill at a very slow pace and numerous times well standing still so I would make a safe bet there will be numerous crashes.

Question 8 – What’s the first thing you’ll do when you finish?
Complain about the line up.
