About The Ride

On 11th January 2014, York City traveled to Sixfields Stadium to take on Northampton Town. Following the match, outside the ground, Cobblers fan David Henderson suffered a heart attack and sadly passed away. A number of supporters from both sides witnessed the tragic events including York City fan Ian Jones. He decided to pursue an event to raise money in David’s memory and came up with the idea of cycling from Bootham Crescent, York to Sixfields. In February 2015, a group of 12 York City supporters completed the 200+ mile bike ride over a period of three days and raised in excess of £7000 for the British Heart Foundation.

This will be the second year of the event and we will be looking to build on and improve last year’s fantastic total of £7,233.44. To help us achieve this, we have increased the number of cyclists from 12 to 17 and will be partaking in and organising many more pre-cycle fundraising events. Confirmed riders are Ian Jones, Dan Waterworth, Ben Nicholson, Adam Livingston, Tom Poole, Craig Atkin, Oli Stone, Robert Corker, Ash Taylor, Ryan & Nathan Brigham, James Patterson, James Calverley, William McGahey, Darren Skilbeck, Shaun Wathey, and Russell Leeming,

Our first pre cycle event is the York City FC family fun day on Sunday the 26th of July where we will be auctioning off several pieces of football memorabilia amongst other items.
